Mountain Biking in Whistler

When temperatures rise and the snow melts, Whistler becomes a whole new type of mountain resort. The very slopes used by skiers and snowboarders in the winter season transform into a rolling terrain of dirt trails and pathways for mountain bikers. The Whistler Valley also has a number of winding bike trails for outdoor adventurers and adrenaline junkies. Find out here about some exciting mountain biking events happening in Whistler this Spring and Summer and how you can participate.

Kokanee Crankworx

Whistler's Kokanee Crankworx is a nine day adrenaline fuelled mountain bike festival where the laws of gravity are challenged by gifted and fearless athletes. While some of the events are reserved for professional bikers, there are also opportunities for novice or intermediate riders to take part as well. For example, the Giant Slalom is an event where two riders race down two jump-instilled tracks at the same time, this event is reserved for professional performance. On the other hand, the Ken Quon Cross Country event is something the whole family can enjoy as it features: a 'traditional' family ride on the wide Lost Lake trails, A WORCA 'Loonie' type ride and the RE/MAX Corridor Cup Challenge for more experienced riders. The renowned Whistler Bike Park will be the stadium where this heart-pumping event will take place. Free music and entertainment will also be provided the entire nine days. Look out for the Kokanee Crankworx festival this summer from August 8th -16th.

Phat Wednesdays

Whistler Off Road Cycling Association (WORCA) and Whistler Bike Park join together to host Phat Wednesdays. This event happens two Wednesdays a month in the summer and takes place on different trails and tracks in the Whistler Bike Park. The event cost is $2 for WORCA members and is followed with snacks at an après party. The event is open to everyone from beginner bikers, youth riders to the extreme park juggernauts.

Team Whistler Mountain Bike Race Day

In collaboration with Whistler Olympic Park, Team Whistler will host a recreational bike race which will be followed by an Olympic Style BC Cup Cross Country Race. This event will take place on July 19th, 2009 and is an occasion the whole family can enjoy. Come out an admire Whistler's natural beauty and experience the first bike competition to take place in this 2010 Olympic and Paralympic venue.
