Learning WoW Basics

Because 11 million people play World of Warcraft there is a huge amount of tips and tricks on how to complete certain quests or level up particular character types. However, there is very little information available for brand new players. Therefore I have decided to give you some basics to help you start your WoW career.

If you ever get stuck within the game you can take advantage of the in-game help menu. You can find the help button at the bottom of your computer screen in the form of an exclamation mark. Simply click on it to access the help database.

The arrow keys can be used to move your avatar around. As with almost all other games that are played on a Pc you can move your character with WASD keys.

The World of Warcraft game program has similar features to other windows programs. If you are unaware of what an icon represents just hold your mouse over it for an explanation.

When you encounter anything in the game that you can interact with, like another character, an object or a monster, then your mouse pointer will change indicating that you can interact with it.

To interact with something within the online world simply left click on it if you want to select it or right click for a list of interactive options.

As WoW is an online game you will need an internet connection and a WoW online account. When you have an account you can then choose which server (or realm) to play in. There are 4 different realms and each one suits different types of game play. However, if it is the first time you are playing I suggest you just pick the first, normal, option.

There are two factions the Alliance and the Horde. Whichever faction you pick will determine you game environment. After this you get to create your own personal character and can choose from 10 races and different classes. This means you could be a elf, the undead and train as a mage with magical powers or be a warrior and dominate the battlefield.

Choose your name and you are ready to go.

When you die in the game you have the ability to be resurrected. A spirit healer will resurrect you in a cemetery as a ghost. To re-enter the game properly just go, as a ghost, to your body and your body will be revived.

If you get lost or just don't know what you should do you can request help from a Game Master by clicking on the "help request" button in your user interface.
